Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
  • DOI-numbers are provided for references where available.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. We may contact you at a later stage in the process to obtain higher resolution files if necessary.
  • References follow the three Cs: clarity, consistency and consideration for the reader.
  • You have included an abstract not exceeding 1500 characters including spaces.
  • The submission document has been fully anonymized in view of the blind peer-review: This includes the removal of author names and affiliation in the document text as well as author meta-data in the document properties.
  • We would appreciate it if you took the time to fill in reviewer interests in our submission system as you create your account so that we can contact you for future reviewer assignments.

Author Guidelines

We require original and exclusive submission. The former means that the research in question has not been previously published in its finished form (though it may have been presented as a conference paper, workshopped or made available as a draft), the latter that it may not be simultaneously submitted to any other journal. As part of the submission process you will be asked to confirm that your contribution is original and exclusive.

JDSR uses a combination of the Harvard system (paranthetical referencing) for literature, and Oxford system (footnote referencing) for specific types of sources (such as legal material) not suitable for parenthetical referencing. However, at the point of submission, your manuscript does not have to follow the JDSR style guide. We will review it for scientific value and following a positive peer-review decision you will be asked to make changes if needed to comply with our style guide. The manuscript should however at the point of submission be clear, transparent and coherent in its language and citations to enable proper scientific scrutiny.

JDSR does not employ a maximum length for contributions, but a submission should be no longer than necessary. A clear and concise submission will have a greater chance of publication. Similarly, JDSR does not operate a minimum word requirement. However, submissions shorter than 2.000 words are normally not classified as research articles.

Submissions should normally be in English. For special issues other major languages may be used, at the discretion of the editors.
